Scottish Rugby, the country’s governing body for rugby union, has announced a new marketing partnership with golf’s Open Championship.

The fan-focused collaboration will see the two parties work together to provide fans with unique and engaging content ahead of next year’s Championship, one of golf’s four majors, at Carnoustie Golf Links in Angus in July.

As part of the agreement, the Claret Jug will be showcased at Scottish Rugby’s Murrayfield home over the coming months. Additionally, Scotland fans who plan to attend the 147th edition of The Open will benefit from exclusive promotions.

The announcement follows a similar content partnership between The Open and top-flight Scottish soccer side Aberdeen.

Johnnie Cole-Hamilton, executive director at The R&A, said: “We are really excited to have launched a new marketing partnership with Scottish Rugby to promote The 147th Open to fans around the entire country.

“There are great parallels between the two sports, rich in heritage but also with some very exciting times ahead, and we look forward to providing engaging content that will inspire fans to attend one of the world’s greatest sporting events when the Championship returns to Carnoustie next year.”

The 2018 Open Championship will be held from 19th to 22nd July. Carnoustie previously hosted golf’s oldest major in 2007, when Ireland’s Pádraig Harrington defeated Spaniard Sergio García in a playoff.
